ABOUT THE ARTIST

KERSTIN HEDESSTRÖM LINDAHL B. 1980

Kerstin H. Lindahl is a painter and psychologist based in Sweden. She paints figurative paintings with abstract elements. The figures have an ethereal quality where shadow and light are in dynamic play.

She reconnected with her dormant artistic abilities during a year with her family in New York City. Getting a break from her job in the psychiatric field. Not having painted since her teens, she looked up art courses in the city. Serendipitously she ended up at Chelsea Classical Studio, under the tutelage of painter Brandon Soloff. Stunned by his ability to paint like the old masters, her curiosity and spark was lit. There was a sense of coming home. As a small child she used to sit in her room, drawing and dreaming away through a reproduction of Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. She dreamed of one day becoming an painter.

She studied a year at Chelsea Classical Studio. Earning a great deal of gratitude towards Brandon for encouraging her to pursue art and applying to Florence Academy of Art Sweden, located right next to her home city. She decided to take the leap, quit her job and studied for two years at the FAO Sweden with excellent teachers.

Since then, she is on a journey of finding her artistic voice beyond technical skills. Methodologically she alternates between meticulous painting through layers of glowing glazes and bold abstractions. Daring to risk the precious and beautiful, her paintings can expand in to a dynamic visual expression.

Meditation and other contemplative practices are important in her life and process; where shifts in consciousness bring flow to her painting practice. She moves between states in her creative process.

Viewing the paintings as beings of their own, she is intrigued by the thought of the paintings becoming a part of the collector’s home, their life and dreams, beyond her own creation.

Kerstin is represented by Galleri Hera, Stockholm.
